Italy Pet Travel Requirements

Below you'll find the official requirements for traveling with pets to Italy. Always check with official sources and your veterinarian before travel, as requirements may change.

Microchip Identification Required

Your pet must be identified with an ISO 11784/11785 compliant microchip. If the microchip is not ISO compliant, you must provide your own microchip reader.

Rabies Vaccination Required

Your pet must have a valid rabies vaccination administered after microchipping and at least 21 days before travel. Boosters must be kept up to date.

EU Pet Passport or Animal Health Certificate Required

EU residents need a Pet Passport issued by an authorized veterinarian. Non-EU travelers need an EU Animal Health Certificate issued within 10 days of entry.

Tapeworm Treatment (Dogs only) Optional

Dogs traveling to Ireland, Finland, Malta, Norway, or the UK need to be treated against tapeworm 24-120 hours before arrival.

Age Restriction Required

Pets must be at least 12 weeks old and must have received their rabies vaccination at least 21 days before travel.

Pet Limit Optional

Generally, you may travel with up to 5 pets. More than 5 pets requires special permission and documentation.
